On Valentine's Day, you want to keep it really simple. Simple ingredients & simple plates always look better than overly themed red & pink decor and food.

This sophisticated brunch consists of bacon hearts, XO pancakes with powdered sugar & berries, a citrus salad with thyme leaves and sugar glaze. Impress your loved ones by saying so much with little accents.


BACON HEARTS

Slice the bacon in half, arrange into heart shapes on a sheet tray & bake for 15 mins at 350 degrees.


XO PANCAKES

I used pancake batter to creates rounds then free hand cut the XO shapes. I sifted some powdered sugar over the pancakes & served it with a fresh bowl of berries & mint.


CITRUS SALAD

Using heart shaped cookie cutters, I cut out shapes from grapefruit, navel oranges, blood oranges, & mandarin oranges.

Grapefruit tends to be bitter, so you always want to top it with sugar or honey. I used a sugar glaze (1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp water) with thyme leaves to give it a fresh flavour.

Women are naturally attracted to shiny things. The best ways to put a smile on a woman's face are roses, pearls & jewelery. Which woman wouldn't be ear-to-ear grinning with this creative way of getting all three? These beautiful rose cupcakes, pearl drop cupcakes, & gold-polished strawberries encompass everything that women crave on Valentines Day. 

My special delivery was vanilla bean cupcakes with velvety smooth buttercream frosting topped with candied pearls & dried rose petals, the elegant deep red petal frosted rose cupcakes, & pure couverture chocolate dipped strawberries brushed with 24 karat gold leaf edible paint. And to top it all off, my heart stopped when I got these jumbo barbie pink pavlovas filled with raspberries & a lemon creme mousseline. 

Very creative & extremely satisfying as the perfect romantic delivery, seductive food foreplay, or just to brighten someone's day. 

The delicate sweets reminded me of the extravagant & creative desserts served in high teas with touches of lavender, combinations of different essences & extracts. This inspired me to do a luxurious, over-the-top display of tea pots, cake trays, & my dusty pink Greta Constantine gown. The draped fabric reminded me of the layers of icing. I chose to stick with a monotone look with my new Saint Laurent 'Sac de Jour' bag in pale blush, & Saint Laurent 'Jane' patent sandals that have become a staple in my closet. 

This delivery definitely made me smile.
